How to reach Rennes
-
Rennes has a small airport: Rennes saint Jacques: http://www.rennes.aeroport.fr/ but mostly with domestic flights (some low cost to/from the UK and Ireland).
-
Dinard is a smaller airport: Low cost Ryanair has flights from the UK to Dinard. From Dinard airport you would need to take a taxi to the railway station at St Malo. Then a train between St Malo and Rennes journey time approx. one hour.
NB: It would be fair to advise travellers that the number of taxis available at Dinard airport to go to St Malo is low (possibly having to wait one hour for a taxi)!
-
Nantes has a bigger airport, located 100 kilometres south of Rennes with a train connection of 60-80 minutes between the two cities (http://www.nantes.aeroport.fr/ANA/Page/). For train information please see the website of the French sncf http://www.ter-sncf.com/Bretagne/index.asp and select a trip from Nantes to Rennes. Take care as there are several French cities/villages with these names, select zipcodes 44000 and 35000 from the menu. Note there are some trains which require a change to a connecting station (taking between 2-3 hours).
-
In fact the simplest solution is often to use the TGV train from Paris, Gare Montparnasse. Most days there are two trains leaving each hour (at 05 and 35) and takes approx. two hours to reach Rennes. There are also each day between four to six trains going directly to Rennes from Charles de Gaulle Airport.
-
If you fly into Charles de Gaulle Airport and unable to get a direct train, you can use “Roissy Bus” from Air France, or the RER train (NOTE: inside Paris you must change at Gare du Nord or Saint Michel and take the metro line 4 in the direction of “Porte d’Orléans” to reach Montparnasse railway station).
Most of the hotels listed by the Office du Tourisme are located by the railway station (“Sortie Nord”). A return ticket Paris/Rennes costs approximately 100/120 euros. |
